The New River Valley Regional Jail is seeking to fill the position of Maintenance Technician.  Qualified Candidates are career-oriented individuals that enjoy working with people, personal challenges, and the opportunity for advancement.

As a valued member of our maintenance team, you will perform a variety of duties that include:

  • Scheduled preventative maintenance of certain systems
  • Perform essential job functions to ensure a clean and safe working environment
  • Coordinate activities and ensuring that tools, equipment and other potential weapons are secured and accounted for, and that each work area is searched before, during, and after the maintenance work period
  • Complete inventory of equipment, clean the maintenance officer area, maintenance of equipment at the beginning and end of each shift, report all missing or damaged equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Know emergency evacuation procedures for the work area
  • Conduct on-going security inspections of the work area looking for and take corrective action on all overt security breaches
  • Perform preventative maintenance function for HVAC systems as scheduled (change filters, clean coils, check operation of exhaust fans, monitor components for coolers and freezers)
  • Perform preventative maintenance function for slider doors and security locks
  • Perform preventative maintenance function for plumbing systems as scheduled (apply cleaner for shower drains and urinals
  • Change water filters on kitchen equipment, clean and pressure wash sumps
  • Perform preventative maintenance function for roof systems
  • Complete other assigned projects for maintenance section as assigned
  • Participate in training programs/sessions as required
  • Perform any other work duties assigned by the Superintendent or his designee

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  Education equivalent to graduation from high school; supplemented with experience or certification in any maintenance functions, experience in a correctional facility.

Experience     

Required: Related work experience or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred: Certifications in areas of plumbing, HVAC, or electricity

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • No criminal record
